BIOGRAPHY
Originally from the Montpellier region, Isabelle Candelier first studied at the National Conservatory of this southern city, before moving to Paris to enter the National Superior Conservatory of Dramatic Art. Throughout his career, theater and cinema were inextricably linked. Between two films, she plays in different plays from the classical repertoire, but also in a comic play that she co-created, André the Magnificent , which was adapted for the big screen in 2000.
It is always thanks to the boards that she met Denis Podalydès and his brother, Bruno , who made his first creations in the early 1990s. Isabelle Candelier then naturally joined the casting of almost all of the films of her artist friends. Her first notable role was that of Claire, a young woman with whom Denis Podalydès fell in love in Versailles rive gauche (1992). Six years later, she found the two brothers in Dieu Seul Me See (Versailles-chantiers) . Here again, the nurse she plays capsizes Denis Podalydès ‘ heart ! In a completely different register, the actress becomes the concierge Madame Bernier in the duology retracing the adventures of detective Rouletabille ( The Mystery of the Yellow Room , 2003 / The Perfume of the Lady in Black , 2005).
Favorite actress of Bruno Podalydès , she does not fail to play in his last two opuses to date, Bancs publics (Versailles right bank) (2008), yet another exploration of the royal city; and in the comedy Farewell Berthe or Grandma’s Funeral (2012). When she is not filming with her faithful playmates, Isabelle Candelier joins the cream of French directors, from Philippe Lioret ( Mademoiselle , 2001) to Jean Becker ( Efroyables jardin , 2003). And when the famous Ridley Scott set his cameras in France for A Great Year (2006), she shared the bill with stars Russell Crowe and Marion Cotillard , in the role of a winemaker’s wife.
