A viral report suggesting that the Kano chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held a clandestine meeting with President Bola Tinubu and party leadership to influence the outcome of the Supreme Court appeal filed by the New Nigerian People’s Party has been dismissed by the party.

Two months earlier, Governor Abba Yusuf and the NNPP had vowed to seek redress at the Supreme Court after Kano APC candidate Nasir Gawuna was declared the winner of the March 18 governorship election, which was fiercely contested.

The Appeal Court panel, led by Justice M. A. Adumeh, ruled that Yusuf was not on the membership register of his political party, citing a provision of the electoral act which states that a party must have the names of its registered members in both hard and soft copies.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Kano APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, refuted the rumor, stating that there was no meeting with the President or any party leader. Abbas emphasized that President Bola Tinubu, as a Democrat, believes in the rule of law and would not be involved in any attempt to subvert justice.

Abbas reiterated that the party was unaware of any such arrangement and affirmed their commitment to pursuing their case at the Supreme Court. He also reassured that there is no tension in Kano, and the people are content with the tribunal and appeal court judgments.

Additionally, Abbas pledged to maintain harmonious and peaceful relationships with ethnic groups and nationalities in the state, despite occasional provocations from the governing party.
