He was also the lineal champion, IBO champion, and held the European bantamweight title. He ranks 14th as the best British boxer of all time.

Naseem’s overall net worth is estimated to be $33 million, accumulated through a highly successful boxing career, with multiple awards and recognition boosting both his popularity and finances.

Born to Yemeni parents who immigrated to the UK, Naseem started training at seven years old in a gym to learn self-defense due to his small stature. His talent and southpaw style led him to begin professional boxing at flyweight in 1992. Naseem swiftly ascended the ranks, knockout out numerous opponents. At 20, he secured the European bantamweight title and the WBC International super bantamweight title in the same year. His unique style and talent gained him a large fan base and immense popularity.

In 1995, despite never boxing at featherweight, he was named the WBO #1. Two years later, he won the IBF title by defeating long-time champion Tom Johnson but was forced to relinquish the title due to boxing politics concerning the IBF’s mandatory challenger. His US debut in the same year, where he defeated former WBC titleholder Kevin Kelley, garnered widespread media coverage and marked the beginning of several fights on HBO.

In March 2000, Naseem impressively defeated Vuyani Bungu, the former undefeated long-reigning IBF super bantamweight title holder. However, a hand injury requiring surgery and difficulty meeting weight requirements led to his loss against Marco Antonio Barrero, resulting in losing his Lineal championship. His final match in May 2002 saw him unconvincingly defeat European champion Manuel Calvo, with boos from the 10,000 fans present. Naseem retired soon after due to chronic health issues, finishing his career with a 36-1 record, including 31 knockouts or TKOs.

In his personal life, Naseem has been married to Eleesha since 1998 and is a practicing Muslim. In 1999, he was honored with an M.B.E in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List for his services to boxing, but this was revoked in January 2007 following a conviction for dangerous driving in the UK. In 2015, Naseem was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
