Setting a new milestone, Helen Williams from Nigeria has established a record for crafting the longest handmade wig.
The accomplishment was confirmed by Guinness World Records on Tuesday, announcing that the length of the wig measures an astonishing 351.28 meters (1,152 ft 5 in).
Helen dedicated 11 days and over N200,000 (£2,031; $2,493) to create this remarkable wig.
Guinness World Records revealed that Helen has been professionally producing wigs for eight years, manufacturing an average of 50 to 300 wigs per week.
GWR tweeted, “Helen Williams from Lagos, Nigeria has achieved a new record for the longest handmade wig which stretches an incredible 351.28 meters (1,152 ft 5 in).”
To construct the wig, Helen utilized an underlay made of wig-cap netting and black fabric attached to a bicycle helmet. She utilized 1,000 bundles of hair, 12 cans of hair spray, 35 tubes of hair glue, and 6,250 hair clips to complete the hairpiece.
“Finding the materials to make the longest wig was not an easy task. My experience as a wigmaker helped a lot,” mentioned Helen.
The primary obstacle Helen encountered was finding a suitable space to lay out the wig in a straight line for accurate measurement. None of the venues she visited, including several running tracks, were long enough to accommodate the wig.
