The swearing-in date for the recently appointed eleven Justices of the Supreme Court has not yet been decided by the National Judicial Council (NJC). NJC dismissed the claim made by an Abuja-based media organization setting the date for Monday, January 16 as inaccurate and assured that the news did not originate from them. “The Council’s Chairman, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, and the Council itself did not issue or approve the mentioned date,” clarified Barrister Soji Oye, the NJC Director of Information. NJC urged the public to ignore the news and emphasized that the swearing-in date for the Justices will be disclosed at an appropriate time. In a statement, NJC addressed the situation, denying the circulating story about the swearing-in and stated, “The date for the swearing-in of the Justices will be made public at the appropriate time. Members of the public should please disregard the trending news.”
