A year after the demise of the “Goodfellas” actor, while filming “Dangerous Waters” in the Dominican Republic, authorities confirmed on Monday that the 67-year-old passed away due to atherosclerotic disease, which entails the buildup of fats, cholesterol, and other substances in and on the artery walls.
The cause of his death was attributed to pulmonary edema, a condition triggered by an excess of fluid in the lungs, along with heart and respiratory failure.
Jennifer Allen, the actor’s publicist, verified to CBS News that Liotta passed away in his sleep.
“Based on the post-mortem signs, death could have occurred approximately 8-10 hours earlier at the time the body was removed and the autopsy was performed on May 26, 2022, at 03:22 p.m.,” shared Dominican officials.
