In a recent interview, Brazilian attacking midfielder Rodrygo revealed why he chose to join Real Madrid despite having a previous agreement with Barcelona while he was still playing for Santos.
According to Rodrygo, he had the opportunity to sign with Barcelona, but he opted to wait for an offer from Real Madrid, much to the disappointment of his father. “Practically everything was sorted out with Barcelona, we just needed to sign. I asked my dad, ‘Is there nothing from Real Madrid?’ Unfortunately, there was nothing. I asked to wait for the weekend because we had a game. I said, ‘I’m going to tear it up, and Real Madrid will notice me,'” Rodrygo recalled, as quoted by Globo.
His decision was met with frustration from his father, who couldn’t understand why he would choose to wait instead of playing alongside Lionel Messi at Barcelona. However, during the game, Real Madrid contacted his father.
