Reports have emerged of a Russian soldier being detained for allegedly recording himself raping a one-year-old baby in Ukraine and circulating the disturbing video on social media.
Alexei Bychkov is facing accusations of being the perpetrator of the assault, as confirmed by reports in the Russian media.
These developments follow allegations made by Lyudmila Denisova, the commissioner for human rights in the Ukrainian Parliament, who claimed that Russian troops have committed atrocities of child rape during the war.
According to her statement on Telegram, a 14-year-old girl in Bucha was reportedly raped by a group of five soldiers and is now pregnant as a result.
In the same town, an 11-year-old boy was reportedly assaulted in the presence of his mother, who was tied to a chair and forced to witness the ordeal.
Additionally, three soldiers allegedly raped a 20-year-old woman in Irpen.
Earlier reports also indicated that Russian troops had raped a 16-year-old girl and her 78-year-old grandmother in a village in the Kherson region.
Lamenting the situation, Ms. Denisova emphasized that there will be no escape from retribution for the perpetrators of such crimes.
She urged victims to bravely report incidents of sexual violence by soldiers, emphasizing that the offenders “must bear the strictest responsibility.”
She also shared graphic details of a woman’s rape in the Kharkiv region, who is currently undergoing rehabilitation.
Ms. Denisova recounted: “In the Kharkiv region, the Russian occupier raped a 29-year-old woman who was caring for her immobile mother for over a week.
“The woman endured repeated sexual assaults, but was unable to seek help from law enforcement. Eventually, a militant destroyed her phone. A week later, the rapist began professing love to the woman and suggested taking her away from the war.
“Upon her refusal due to her inability to abandon her mother, the assailant callously shot the elderly woman in front of her daughter. The woman managed to escape and is currently undergoing rehabilitation.”
These remarks by Ms. Denisova come on the heels of a Human Rights Watch (HRW) report featuring eyewitness testimonies of Russian soldiers committing sexual violence and executing Ukrainian civilians.
