After earning degrees in computer science and philosophy at Tufts University, he pursued post-graduate studies at Stanford University, where he obtained a Master of Business Administration.

Prior to starting his own company, Seth worked for Spinnaker. Using his savings of $20,000, he launched his own company, Seth Godin Productions, which operated as a book packaging business.

He later founded Yoyodyne in 1995 after meeting Mark Hurst, to promote the concept of permission marketing. The successful operation of the company led Seth to sell it to Yahoo!, significantly increasing his net worth when he was named Yahoo’s vice president of direct marketing.

In 2006, he started the revenue-sharing article-writing site Squidoo. Despite its success, Seth sold the site to HubPages in 2014 as he felt it was no longer profitable.

Besides his business ventures, Seth is a prolific author with 22 published books, some of which are bestsellers, including “Purple Cow: Transform Your Business by Being Remarkable” and “The Dip: A Little Book That Teaches You When to Quit (and When to Stick)”.
