Following a 30-foot drop into a tank during a performance at Universal Studios Hollywood, a performer from “WaterWorld” had to be hospitalized.
The incident occurred during a Monday show at the theme park. The performer was noticed missing by other cast members, prompting them to rescue him while the audience was evacuated and the performance was canceled.
Colleagues administered CPR for over 5 minutes before successfully reviving the performer, who was then rushed to the hospital. The current condition of the performer is unknown.
According to KTLA, the Los Angeles County Fire Department received a call from the California-based theme park just before 2:10 p.m. on Monday, January 23, reporting an “unresponsive patient” who received CPR and was breathing before being transported to the hospital.
A spokesperson for Universal Studios Hollywood confirmed the incident, stating: “We can confirm a performer with one of our long-standing show vendors was transported to the hospital following a stunt during an afternoon performance and our thoughts are with him as he receives care. Details surrounding the event are being reviewed.”
The show’s website describes “WaterWorld—A Live Sea War Spectacular” as the most complex combination of high-tech special effects, pyrotechnics, flame, and human stunt work attempted anywhere in the world. The attraction immerses guests in action involving numerous stunts and fiery special effects.
The description also highlights some of the performance features, including giant fireballs rising 50 feet in the air and cascading to earth in a spectacular wall of fire, as well as a seaplane that swoops in directly above the audience, skidding across the water and coming to an explosive crash landing just inches away from spectators.
