Julia Goerges is one of the few German women to achieve great things in professional tennis. Like every other athlete, she’s had her fair share of ups and downs, but in the end, she always seems to find a way to reinvent herself after every fall. Since turning pro in 2005, Julia Goerges has won at least 5 WTAs (including 3 singles and 2 doubles) and 6 ITFs.
Who is Julia Georges?
Julia Goerges was born on November 2, 1988, in BadOldesloe, West Germany. Goerges comes from a family of financial workers. His parents, Klaus and Inge Görges, including his maternal half-sister, Maike, all work in insurance. But instead of continuing in the family profession, Julia from the age of 5 sought to be different and chose tennis as her personal interest.
She played with heart under the tutelage of Sascha Nensel, while idolizing the great Swiss, Martina Hingis. In 2005, at the age of 17, Julia was ready to turn pro. She started out on the ITF Women’s Tour before slowly venturing into the WTA Tour. In 2008, Goerges broke into the top 100. Two years later in 2010, Goerges broke into the top 50 after winning his first career WTA title with the Gastein Ladies.
Goerges had a steady rise in her career between 2010 and 2012. During this period, she won the Fed Cup in February 2011 and the Stuttgart title which she won by beating then world number one Caroline Wozniacki. She had another spectacular year in 2012, breaking into the top 20 at the end of the year.
Unfortunately, Goerges couldn’t follow his excellent game as his performance started to decline in 2013. The poor performances continued until 2015 when Goerges fell out of the top 100. In order to get back in the saddle, Goerges decided to clean house by doing a complete overhaul of his team. She dropped her long-time trainer Sascha Nensel, changed her physio and even moved. Georges changed his residence from northern Germany to the south.
Fortunately, Goerges did not regret his decisions as his performance began to improve. 2017 was a successful year. On the fourth request, Goerges won her first singles title since 2011. It was the Kremlin Cup that she won by beating Russian Daria Kasatkina. Fortunately, Goerges returned to the top 20. Winning the cup qualified her for the WTA Elite Trophy tournament which she then lifted, beating Coco Vandeweghe in the final. It was the biggest victory of his career at the time.
In February 2018, for the first time in her career, Julia Goerges broke into the top 10 after winning the ASB Classic in Auckland. She reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon 2018 but her hope of reaching the final was truncated by a loss to Serena Williams.
Her husband/boyfriend
When it comes to her personal life, the German sportswoman is incredibly private. As far as we know, Julia Goerges does not have a husband in her life at the time of writing this article. The last time news about her romantic life surfaced online was in October 2015 when she was spotted locking lips with a mystery guy who was later identified as the physiotherapist at the team of South African tennis player, Kevin Anderson. His name is Florian Zitzelsberger.
Cameras spotted the duo stealing a kiss together as they watched from the stands an ATP Erste Bank Open match which Anderson played against Johnson in Vienna, Austria. It was Julia’s first time in town. She had taken a vacation trip to town after a neck injury forced her to withdraw from the women’s tournament in Luxembourg. Further findings revealed that Julia’s date, Florian Zitzelsberger, was a citizen of Bravia who was affiliated with CorpusCare Physiotherapy in Regensburg, Germany.
The world waited for more news from Julia and her supposed boyfriend Florian but none came. The star continues to operate her romantic life away from the prying eyes of the media
