A female employee in Minnesota was fatally shot outside her workplace for turning down a coworker’s advances on multiple occasions.
Nicole Hammond, 28, was killed in the parking lot of her workplace in St. Cloud on Oct. 24. The perpetrator, identified as Jordan Carpenter, shot her in the neck, according to the police.
Following the incident, Carpenter fled the scene but was apprehended approximately three hours later while hiding in a residence in nearby Sauk Rapids, as stated by the St. Cloud Police.
He was found in possession of a handgun and was subsequently arrested and charged with murder.
The victim had previously communicated with the coworker, expressing her refusal to be touched or controlled by him, as revealed in a probable cause statement obtained by the Kansas City Star.
According to the police, Hammond had consistently declined Carpenter’s romantic advances and urged him to maintain a professional environment at work.
In addition, a text from Hammond to a friend indicated Carpenter’s anger towards her, and the harassment was reportedly observed by other coworkers, who mentioned Carpenter’s “bad temper.”
The suspected perpetrator confessed to law enforcement that he was upset about Hammond rejecting him the night before her tragic death.
While Carpenter did not confess to the killing, he alleged that he was walking towards Hammond’s car when he heard the gunshot, and subsequently claimed that he ran away from the scene because he was too traumatized to take action after witnessing her body.
Authorities stated that Carpenter did not provide assistance, report to work, or call 9-1-1 following the incident.
