Meet EFCC Acting Chairman Abdulkarim Chukkol

Assuming the role of Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is Mr. Abdulkarim Chukkol following the suspension of Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa by President Bola Tinubu. 

Prior to this appointment, Chukkol served as the Director of Operations of the Commission, being one of the early employees and a distinguished member of the EFCC Cadet Course One.

Described as a “consummate and vastly experienced investigator with specialty in cybercrime and money laundering,” Chukkol has held various command roles within the Commission, including overseeing the Advance Fee Fraud and Cybercrime Sections of the Lagos and Abuja Zonal Commands, pioneering the Uyo Zonal Command, and leading the Port Harcourt Zonal Command.

He has been involved in numerous special operations with international law enforcement organizations, maintaining close relationships with agencies such as the FBI, UK National Crime Agency, and other global law enforcement entities.

Chukkol has actively collaborated with other governments in establishing laws and infrastructure for law enforcement actions and is Nigeria’s representative at the International Mass Marketing Fraud Working Group.

In recognition of his contributions, Chukkol has received several awards and commendations both locally and internationally, including honors from the EFCC and the United States Department of Justice.

Holder of a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Maiduguri, Chukkol also possesses post-graduate certifications from the University of Virginia and the United States Telecommunication Training Institute, among other specialized training and fellowships.
