Regina Chukwu, a popular Nollywood actress, has decided to address the tribal criticisms she faced for using a Yoruba name despite being of Igbo ethnicity.

The Yoruba actress had previously shared a video from Funke Akindele’s A Tr!be Called Judah movie premiere on her TikTok page with the caption, ‘Arike Ni Mi’.

This caption didn’t sit well with some of her Igbo fans, who took to her comment section to remind her of her Igbo heritage.

Addressing the criticisms on her Instagram page, Regina Chukwu expressed that she has close ties with Yoruba individuals who have wholeheartedly accepted her, hence the significance of having a Yoruba name given to her by her partner.

She also reminisced about how her landlord in the Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos had given her a Yoruba name, ‘Abosede’, which was bestowed upon her on her naming ceremony due to her birth on a Sunday.

Regina concluded by emphasizing her love and appreciation for her Yoruba name, ‘Arike’, bestowed upon her by her partner.

Meanwhile, she shared her disappointment regarding the ongoing TikTok videos about the late singer, Mohbad’s death, expressing concern over the negativity and harshness present in the comment sections.

Regina questioned the state of the country given the negative reactions and conflicts surrounding Mohbad’s demise.
