Nicholas William Peter “Nick” Clegg, born on 7 January 1967, is a prominent British politician. Since 2010, he has held the position of Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Lord President of the Council in the coalition government led by Prime Minister David Cameron. Clegg has been the leader of the Liberal Democrats since 2007 and has also served as a member of parliament (MP) representing Sheffield Hallam since 2005. He is an alumnus of the University of Cambridge, the University of Minnesota, and the College of Europe. Prior to his political career, he worked as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) and was distinguished for his journalism at the Financial Times. Clegg’s political career took off when he was elected to the House of Commons in 2005 and subsequently appointed as the Liberal Democrats’ Home Affairs spokesperson in 2006. His role as Deputy Prime Minister commenced after the 2010 general election, during which the Liberal Democrats formed a coalition government with the Conservative Party. Clegg has also contributed to numerous political publications in addition to his parliamentary duties.
