The veteran American reporter was born on December 14, 1965 in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, United States. He grew up in a Christian family along with his brother. His parents were Jerry and Janice Davis. But he has not disclosed information about his family and siblings.
In terms of education, after finishing high school, he has joined the University of Alabama. From college, he had graduated with a BA in Public Affairs and Broadcast News. During college, he had worked as a freelance television host, studio host, and radio personality.

Davis worked as a general assignment reporter for WCFT-TV in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1987. After graduation, he began his professional journalism career. Before joining ESPN, he landed a job with WRBL as a sports reporter, weekend news anchor, and also athletic director. In 1993, he moved to Flint, Michigan and began working at WJRT-TV. He worked on the digital channel as a sports presenter and reporter. He was therefore recognized as a young journalist who attracted the attention of the main network ESPN.
Then, in 1995, he left the channel and started working at ESPN2 for the show ‘SportSmash’. He subsequently hosted another program ‘NBA 2Night’ on the channel 1996-97. From 1997 to 1999, he joined ESPN2’s weekend show “RPM 2Night” and Sunday morning “RPM 2Day” as a studio host.

Additionally, he worked on SportsCenter, college football, and college basketball for the Network. In addition to that, he had hosted the 2006 FIFA World Cup and the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup. In 2015, he had signed a multi-year contract with ESPN. The network announced that he will take over the College GameDay football tour as host in the same year.
