Born on May 20, 1944, John Robert CockerTemplate:Post-nominals, famously known as Joe Cocker, was an English rock and blues singer who gained fame in the 1960s. He was renowned for his rough voice, spasmodic stage presence, and cover versions of popular songs, especially those by The Beatles. His rendition of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help from My Friends” topped the UK charts in 1968, and he performed the song live at Woodstock in 1969. His single “You Are So Beautiful” reached number five in the US in 1975. Cocker received numerous accolades, including a Grammy Award in 1983 for his chart-topping duet with Jennifer Warnes, “Up Where We Belong”. In 1993, he garnered a nomination for the Brit Award for Best British Male, and in 2007, he was honored with an OBE at Buckingham Palace for his contributions to music.
