Kirk Ferentz’s Wiki Biography
Kirk James Ferentz was born on 1st August 1955 in Royal Oak, Michigan, USA. He has been the head football coach at the University of Iowa since 1999. Prior to that, Kirk worked as an assistant coach with the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Raves in the NFL and as the head football coach at the University of Maine.
Kirk Ferentz has accumulated a net worth of over $16 million through his successful coaching career, which began in the early ’80s. His continued active coaching contributes to the increase in his net worth.
Kirk played for the University of Connecticut, where he was an academic all-Yankee Conference linebacker and a football captain. Following his studies, he worked as a student assistant and spent two seasons as the defensive coordinator at Worcester Academy. After graduating in 1978, he served as the assistant offensive line coach at the University of Pittsburgh for one season. He then spent nine seasons as the offensive line coach at the University of Iowa, during which eleven of his players went on to play in the NFL. Kirk later moved on to coach at the University of Maine before being named the offensive line coach for the NFL’s Cleveland Browns and, later, the Baltimore Ravens, all of which significantly contributed to his net worth.
In late 1998, Kirk became the head coach at the University of Iowa. After a couple of tough seasons, the 2002 season proved to be successful for him and his team, as they shared the Big Ten Conference championship with Ohio State and garnered several awards. For his efforts, Ferentz was named Coach of the Year by Associated Press, and Iowa received its first BCS invitation. The following season, the Hawkeyes team secured a no.8 national ranking in both the Coaches Poll and AP Poll. Despite facing obstacles and personal problems in 2004, Kirk was named the Big Ten Conference Coach of the Year. The team maintained their top 10 position in the national ranking the following year. The success continued in the subsequent seasons, and the Hawkeyes took part in the Outback Bowl in 2008. In 2009, the team became the first from Iowa to win eight games while starting a season and secured their first BCS bowl win since 1959.
The Hawkeyes finished the following season in their highest position since 1960, ranking 7th in both AP Poll and Coaches Poll. They experienced three average seasons, but in 2015, the team won the Big Ten Conference West championship for the first time in the school’s history. Kirk was also named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the fourth time while coaching at Iowa.
Despite the team’s loss in the 2015 Big Ten Football Championship Game, the Hawkeyes made it to the 2016 Rose Bowl, their first trip to Pasadena in 25 years. Before 2012, Ferentz had a winning record against all the Big Ten teams in the league except Ohio State. In 2011, he became the dean of Big Ten football coaches as the longest-tenured coach in the sport.
On the personal front, Kirk married Mary Hart in 1974, and the couple has five children, including Brian Ferentz, who has served as the offensive line coach for Iowa since the 2012 season. Brian was appointed the offensive coordinator in January 2017. Kirk’s other son, James, was a second team All-Big Ten center and became a Super Bowl Champion in the 2015 season.
